The achievements of Maureen FitzSimons when she was a teenager in America (which we refer to as Maureen O'Hara today) would have definitely put her into the child-prodigy class. These traits were natural for an Irish-born child surrounded by gifted parents and a loving, supportive family. Maureen came to this loving sanctuary on August 17th, 1920. Her family was the family of her parents. Marguerita FitzSimons was a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin firm, as well as had shares in the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer team. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a fan of rough sports as a kid and was very proficient at it. Her ability to perform was a perfect complement to her passion for sport. This is why she received almost all of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances within her own country. As she reached the age of 14 the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her dreams of classical theater as well as singing opera.
